Science Programs

Ivanhoe Extend Science programs involve learning opportunities and competitions that focus on science knowledge, skills and inquiry, in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science and Psychology.

Australian Junior Science Olympiads (AJSO)

The AJSO is a staged science enrichment program for Year 7-10 students. Students are required to sit a two-hour paper that covers Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science and Physics.

Skills and qualities:Ivanhoe Learner Attributes: reflective, courageous and balanced.

General qualities: advanced scientific knowledge and reasoning, perseverance, growth mindset.

Australian Science Olympiads (ASO)

The Australian Science Olympiads are a science enrichment program for Year 11-12 Science students. The program covers the science disciplines of; Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science and Physics. Students are required to sit an online, two-hour paper per discipline area.

General qualities: advanced scientific knowledge and reasoning, perseverance and growth mindset.

Girls in Physics Breakfast*

The Girls in Physics Breakfasts are hosted by the Victorian Physics Teachers’ Network, girls in Year 11-12 studying Physics are invited to hear from professionals working in various fields connected with Physics.

Skills and qualities:Ivanhoe Learner Attributes: ethical, reflective, courageous and innovative.

General qualities: lifelong learning, communication skills, scientific skills, scientific inquiry and futures thinking.

Science Talent Search

The Science Talent Search is hosted by the Science Teachers’ Association of Victoria. This program gives Year 3-12 students the opportunity to deeply explore a scientific area of interest and communicate their findings through the scientific investigation process.

Skills and qualities:Ivanhoe Learner Attributes: ethical, reflective, courageous, balanced, collaborative, compassionate and innovative.

General qualities: research, scientific investigation, critical thinking, scientific communication skills, teamwork and collaboration and digital technologies.
