Global Education Programs

Ivanhoe Extend Global Education programs involve learning opportunities and competitions which develop global awareness, knowledge and competencies.

Constitutional and Parliamentary Conventions

Constitutional and parliamentary conventions give Year 9-12 students the opportunity to engage in immersive civics and citizenship activities aimed at improving their understanding of parliamentary processes.

This is explored through a political question posed to them and a day of guest speakers, a debate and a final vote on the chosen topic, simulating a parliamentary vote.

Evatt Competition

The Evatt Competition puts Year 9-12 students in the shoes of UN Security Council nations to debate on issues of international security, human rights and current affairs. Competitions happen late July/August with semi-finals in September.

Future Problem Solving

The Future Problem Solving Program requires Year 5-12 students to work in groups of four to futuristically solve an issue of global significance using a six-step problem solving process. Rounds 1-4 occur April through August with Nationals in October.

Nationals and Internationals competitors also perform their action plans as an entertaining drama.

Global Alliance of Leading Edge Schools for Sustainability (GALESS) TiltShift Challenge (Micro-credential)

The TiltShift Challenge is a research challenge open to Year 10 students. Groups of 4-5 students will work on a research project that relates to the year’s theme and develop their analysis to then publish and present the project at an international conference.

General qualities: problem finding and solving, critical thinking, communication and presentation skills, local issues awareness and leadership.

Global Health Case Competition

Global Health Youth Connect runs an annual Global Health Case Competition which tasks Year 9-10 students in groups of 4-5 with identifying challenges with accessing healthcare across regions of Australia and providing interventions or solutions to a specific issue. Competition occurs in August/September online and at the University of Melbourne.

General qualities: problem finding and solving, critical thinking, communication and presentation skills, community health awareness and leadership.

Model United Nations Conferences

Model UN Conferences hosted by the United Nations Association of Australia, gives Year 9-11 students from schools around Victoria the opportunity to represent a country and engage in diplomatic international discussion on topics of global significance.
