Year 9 Drama

This semester students have had an Australian focus in Year 9 Drama. Students have explored some of the most renowned and significant pieces of Australian Theatre written in the last 50 years.

While the Unit has been largely practical and experiential, there has also been both research and creative-writing facets to the subject. Students have all researched an Australian play and reported to the class on the themes and social/historical context of their play.

On Wednesday 26 October students presented a collection of scenes from the Australian plays we have been looking at. These scenes are challenging from an acting point of view, and also demand a high level of maturity from our performers.

The scenes were chosen because each of them highlights the way Australian theatre has held up a mirror to Australian society and encouraged discussion of important issues like racism, gender roles, domestic violence, and corruption.
