Welcome to our 2017 Captains

Following a selection process involving students and staff, Prefects were announced and inducted last year. These Prefects then attended leadership training designed to equip them with all the skills they will need to serve as effective members of the student leadership team. Following this training, the Heads of Campus each selected two students to serve as captains.

At The Ridgeway Campus the 2017 Captains are Tess Carolan and Jack Brenton.

Tess started at Ivanhoe in Year 7 and embraced all that an Ivanhoe education has to offer. Not only has she represented the School in Netball and Basketball but she has also received awards in Science and Maths Competitions. She has been involved in Cadets and Debating as well as having a passion for community service through her work with 300 Blankets and The Brotherhood of St Laurence Urban Camp. Highlights for her have been going overseas on School trips to Cambodia and the US and she has always been interested in literature, writing fiction and now poetry. Outside of School, she has been active in Drama and this year will be the first time she has been involved with a School Musical and she is looking forward to the experience.

Jack has always balanced his co-curricular activities and academic studies well, commencing at Ivanhoe in Year 7. He has represented the School in Hockey, Kayaking, Water Polo and Cadets. He has always shown an ability for leadership, taking on a Middle Years Leadership role and he has been active in service work for Orphfund and 300 Blankets. A true all-rounder, Jack is a dedicated and accomplished student, receiving a Third Rhodes Award and a Distinction in the ICAS Mathematics Competition. He received the Michael Gorton AM One world Award in 2016 and he aspires to be a lawyer. A highlight of his time at Ivanhoe was the Cambodia service trip he went on in 2015 and in his spare time he enjoys playing and watching Basketball as well as referring club games every week.

At Plenty Campus the 2017 Captains are Georgia Harper and Kosta Giaprakis.

Kosta commenced his time at Ivanhoe as a Year 8 student and quickly made the most of the opportunities on offer at Ivanhoe Grammar School. Kosta was a member of an International Trip to China in 2014 and has represented the School in the sports of Basketball, Soccer and Tennis. Kosta has also been a member of the Round Square Committee and various School Musical Productions over the years. Kosta has a strong sense of social justice and has participated in the Justice walk for Refugees, the Gender Awareness Party and has volunteered his time to assist at the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre and for the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal. Kosta has obtained the rank of CUO for the Cadet Unit and has been a recipient of a Gold IDEALS Award for Adventure, Leadership and Service. Over the years Kosta has also been awarded a Rhodes Award and Principal’s Award showcasing his academic and co-curricular involvement and success.

Georgia began as a Year 7 student in 2012 and immediately involved herself in School life. In particular, Georgia has displayed a real passion for the co-curricular area of Sport and has participated in Athletics, Volleyball, Softball, Tennis and has been a member of numerous premiership winning Swimming and Netball teams. Georgia has been an integral part of the firsts Netball team since Year 8, which is an extraordinary achievement in itself. It is no wonder that Georgia has been the recipient of many sporting awards, including Triple Blue throughout her time at School. She has also been member of the Student Representative Council, Cadet Unit, Big Brother/Big Sister Program and has shown a real desire to achieve her personal best throughout her academic pursuits obtaining Principal’s and subject specific awards. Georgia’s kind, caring and energetic nature, along with her growth mindset have made her a remarkable role model for all students.

There is no doubt that all four Captains will represent the School well and carry out their responsibilities with pride and commitment. Ivanhoe Grammar School congratulates Tess, Jack, Georgia and Kosta on their appointment and looks forward to the exciting year ahead.
