Victorian All Schools Track and Field Championships

From Friday 7 to Sunday 9 November the Victorian All Schools Track and Field Championships were held at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park. The competition provides the opportunity for athletes from Under 14 to Under 20 age groups to compete against the state’s best and achieve selection for the 2014 Australian All Schools Championships in Adelaide, South Australia.

It was great to see a large number of Ivanhoe students competing at the Championships and the weekend saw some great results and personal bests achieved.

Year 9 student Olivia Carah had a successful day at the track, winning the Under 16 Girls Pole Vault and Triple Jump, third place in the 200 metre Hurdles and fifth in the High Jump. Olivia has now been selected to compete in the Girls Pole Vault and Triple Jump when the competition heads to Adelaide at the Australian Championships in December.

Year 7 student Charly Rouch achieved a personal best as well as fifth place in the Under 14 Girls 200 metre track event as well as finished in the top ten of the 100 metre track event.

Year 8 student Amy Cornell represented Ivanhoe in the 800 metre track event final, however in an unfortunate turn she was tripped at the 200 metre mark by the girl behind. Displaying sheer courage and determination she got back on her feet and completed the final 600 metres with what has turned out to be a broken bone in her forearm!

All the girls have worked really hard to achieve their great results and they should be extremely proud of their achievements.

Congratulations to all the athletes who competed in events throughout the weekend.
