Top 10 in Equestrian Championships

The Ivanhoe Grammar School Equestrian Team competed at the Victorian Interschool Championships at the Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre over the holidays. Over 550 competitors from nearly 50 schools from throughout Victoria rode over the four days in some very challenging weather conditions. Our team placed in the top 10 which was an outstanding effort.

Alice Davies on her pony Roy was our most successful competitor, winning the Primary Novelty event, placing 2nd in the Handy Mount and 3rd in the Show Jumping. Alice ranked 12th overall in points including primary and secondary students!

Jess Grant placed consistently on her two horses in the Show Jumping, coming 3rd overall in the 120cm class and Reserve Champion in the 100cm class. As a result, Jess has qualified for the National Championships for the 5th year in succession – a great achievement!

Cassidy Neubauer placed 3rd and 6th in two phases of the 90cm Show Jumping and also provided great support and encouragement to our younger riders.

Edward Darby placed 3rd in the 110cm Show Jumping as well as 3rd in the Novelties, 5th in the Handy Mount and 6th in the Combined Training. Miranda Darby placed 3rd in the Novelties and also competed well in Show Jumping and combined training.

Clancy Grant competed on several horses, including Show Jumping and combined training. Ella Barker and Zali Vanderwert competed at their first State Championships, with Ella placing 7th in one round of the 75cm showjumping. A great effort for both these promising young riders.

Brigitte Theuma and Lily Dobson both competed in the Dressage. They were both on new horses and whilst they did not place in the top 10, they gained valuable experience and both show promise for the future.

Thanks Brigitte for coming to support the younger competitors throughout the competition!

All team members should be congratulated on the way they conducted themselves, and the support and encouragement they provided each for other.
