South Ground Club

At Ivanhoe Grammar School we have 16 parent groups that sit under the umbrella of Ivanhoe Parents and Friends. The parents who volunteer their time, energy and expertise to different areas of the School are a vital part of life at Ivanhoe and their contribution can not be underestimated.

As part of a series celebrating our parent groups, we begin with the cross-campus group the South Ground Club. The South Ground Club is made up of members from across the School and alumni. The group was originally formed in 1997 by Old Ivanhoe Grammarian, Hugh Wilkinson, member of the 1962 Premiership XI.  The SGC aims to support the School’s current cricketers through friend-raising and fundraising activities, support of the UK Cricket Tour and to keep OIG cricketers in touch with each other and the School.

Parents and alumni are invited to be part of this group, with members receiving updates on the First XI team results, invitations to South Ground Club events and other benefits. The cricket season is launched in September/October each year.

Recent projects that the club has contributed toward:

  • backpacks and memento photobooks for students who went on the UK Development Squad Tour in July 2019
  • re-launch of the South Ground in February 2019 which included a lunch and coincided with a match against Trinity.

Two events planned for February 2020 are a BBQ and a recruitment drive at the Year 7 cricket match on Saturday 8 February.

“The SGC is always looking for new members and generally recruit at functions throughout the year. We’d love to get people on board who have a passion for new ideas, helping and assisting at major events and fundraisers, a love for sport cricket in particular and who generally want to be involved in the school community.” Convenor, Emiliyan Gikovski

Full life members receive emails with match results, fixtures and coaches report, invitations to SGC events throughout the year and a specifically designed SGC key ring.

Members of the school community who are interested in joining the South Ground Club can do so at any time by contacting the Convenor, Emiliyan Gikovski on 0411 794 478 or emailing Ms Terry Kitchen at community@ivanhoe.com.au
