Snowsports

The 2022 Victorian Interschools Race week has come to an end (22-28 August). It was great to see the Snowsports team racing again after two years away from the mountain. Our parents and students travelled to Mt Buller to participate in the biggest snow racing event in the southern hemisphere.

The Victorian Interschools week is a huge week, this year 2700 competitors from 205 schools competed in over 5700 event starts. There is a lot of planning to be able to put on such an incredible event for students who share a passion for skiing & snowboarding. It is wonderful to see the Snowsports community rally together to make the week possible.

The week started with our primary team members facing some weather challenges, but they all took it in their stride and proudly represented the school in Alpine Ski and Snowboard.
The official opening ceremony took place on Tuesday night after being rescheduled, team members on the mountain were provided with a spectacular night sky filled with fireworks.

Our Senior team members started competing on Wednesday and had several great days of racing with our Div 1 members and Snowsports leaders Eliza, Chloe & Asher finishing up the week competing on Sunday in Alpine Ski, Snowboard and Slopestyle events. Special mention to Eliza & Chloe for taking out 1st place in SB Slopestyle (Team) and 2nd place in SB Cross (Team) a great way to finish off your last year at Interschools. Congratulations to our Senior Team for coming in 8th position this year for overall points scored in the secondary co-ed category.

The top 15-20 competitors and top 6 teams from each event qualify for entry to the national event in their event disciplines, competing against the best teams from ACT, SA, NSW and QLD. Congratulations to our team members who are eligible to compete at the Australian Interschools in Perisher, NSW (6-11 Sept):

We had a small cohort of eligible Snowsports students who were able to make the trek to Perisher in NSW to compete in the Australian Interschools Championship, well done to Jake, Seb and our Australian Gold Medallist Slopestyle Snowboarders Chloe & Eliza on an amazing Season.
To all our Snowsports students you should all be very proud of your efforts during the interschools competitions, you have all shown great team spirit. It was great seeing our existing team members showing our many first timers the ropes during Interschools, some great moments were shared throughout the week.

Thank you to all our parents and committee who supported the teams, your support enables a successful week on the mountain. We greatly appreciate your time afforded to look after students, events and getting to the course on time.

A big thank you to Murray Gill (Teacher in Charge) & support Alumni Viktor Svarcs for looking after the team this week. We appreciate your tireless efforts in getting around almost all the events and supporting our students and families during interschools.

The success of the team comes in all forms from podium finishes, to signing up to have a go and everything in between. The journey with the Snowsports team is about team spirit and after two years off the mountain, it was back with force. Well done everyone on a successful Interschools Season.
