Snowsports Training Camp 2015

During the Term 2 holiday break, 30 students and staff members made the journey to Mount Buller for the annual downhill ski and snowboard training camp.

The camp is a great way to kick off the winter season and the group receives daily tuition with qualified Race Coaches, learning correct techniques, race specific skills and gate training.

The group stayed at the Ski Club of Victoria, also known as ‘The Whitt’. Each student participated in two, two hour lessons per day covering the Alpine Skiers and Snowboarders at a variety of skill levels. It wasn’t all work and no play, students were allocated time for Free Skiing in groups of four on designated runs in between their lessons.

The training camp was a great success with many valuable skills learned and improved fitness over the course of the week.

Evenings at the camp were varied throughout the week and included activities such as a ski safety presentation, movie nights, a trivia night and indoor sports including mountain bike pump track, soccer, basketball and rock climbing.

The students from both The Ridgeway and Plenty Campus shared training, meals and accommodation with the Snowsports students from Ivanhoe Girls Grammar School. This provided the opportunity to socialise and strengthen friendships with their peers as well as with our neighbouring school.

Snowsports is just one of the sport options on offer at Ivanhoe Grammar School.
