Round Square International Conference 2025 – Beyond the Dunes
In September, seven Ivanhoe Grammar School students and staff embarked on a transformative journey to the Round Square International Conference in Dubai, Beyond the DUNES. The adventure began with a cultural pre-tour in Oman, featuring visits to museums, mosques, coastal sites, and a night under the desert stars.
The main event in Dubai welcomed nearly 1,400 students from around the world, united by the Round Square IDEALS. Each day spotlighted a different theme, from Adventure Day—where students explored Dubai’s parklands and planted trees—to Environment Day, which sparked global discussions on climate action in Baraza groups.
Service Day proved especially moving, as students connected with “people of determination,” sharing music, games, and heartfelt moments that deepened their understanding of empathy and inclusion. Evening cultural exchanges, including an impromptu Nutbush dance by the Aussies, added joy and camaraderie.
The conference fostered lasting international friendships and broadened perspectives on leadership, sustainability, and global citizenship. The Round Square International Conference was an incredible opportunity to learn, connect and grow. Students returned with unforgettable memories and a renewed sense of gratitude and purpose.
Ivanhoe Grammar School was proudly represented by Harriet, Thomas, Martin, Hannah, Luca, Emily and Alex, each grateful for the opportunity to grow, connect, and represent their school on the world stage.
One of my favourite memories was driving through the Wahiba Sands Desert dunes, it was such a surreal experience, made even more fun and thrilling by the incredible drivers.
Emily
A fond memory I have retained from my Round Square experience would be without a doubt the cultural night, where we were able to watch and participate in different shows which represented something of cultural importance from our country of origin.
Luca
The RSIC was such an unforgettable trip, and I will hold close the memories, friendships and experiences that have helped grow me as a person. This trip taught me to embrace every opportunity and make the most of it, because it’s those moments that become the memories I look back on.
Hannah
I really enjoyed the RSIC 2025. Attending gave me the chance to meet so many people who were my age but lived such different lives. I loved learning about new cultures and also discussing ways of working together to make our future better.
