Principal Receives Award for Service to Education

Roderick Fraser AM, Principal of Ivanhoe Grammar School, has been awarded a Member of the Order of Australia as part of the 2015 Queen’s Birthday Honours Awards.

The award recognises Mr Fraser’s significant service to secondary education, to national and international learning development organisations, and to the community.

Mr Fraser commenced his role as Principal of Ivanhoe Grammar School in 1996, only the fourth Head/Principal in the School’s 100 year history. He has had an extensive educational career in three states of Australia as a teacher and senior administrator, including as Head of The Scots School in Bathurst prior to being appointed as Principal at Ivanhoe.

His experience in the tertiary sector as a lecturer and tutor at the University of Melbourne and the Melbourne College of Education has provided opportunities for an all-round involvement in most aspects of education.

He is currently Chair of the Round Square International Network of Schools, recent past Chair of the Centre for Strategic Education’s International Education Advisory Group, past Chair of the International Baccalaureate Regional Council-Asia Pacific and past member of the IB International Heads Council.

Mr Fraser’s belief in the importance of developing students’ global competency has resulted in Ivanhoe Grammar School making a commitment to internationalising the curriculum, both within and beyond the classroom. This commitment was recognised with an Honorary Fellowship of the Australian Council for Education Leaders, an honour awarded to outstanding leaders in the practice and/or theory of educational leadership. Mr Fraser was also admitted to the rank of Fellow of the Australian College of Educators in 2011.

The Chairman of the Board of Governors, Mr Peter Kempen, said, “The Board of Governors of Ivanhoe Grammar School and the overall Ivanhoe community are very proud of Rod’s achievements and the award is a fitting recognition of his lifetime dedication to the education of young people both locally and internationally”.
