Girls AFL Football Day

On Friday 6 March Buckley House competed in the annual Ivanhoe District Girls AFL Football day. Like the last few years, it was a wonderful day at Chelsworth Park with eight schools from the district competing all day to claim the prize. Our girls didn’t make the finals, however, as a team, they worked really well together all season and were able to produce some great performances. A highlight of the day was the four umpires who turned up, all players from the Collingwood AFLW team. The Collingwood players were more than happy to give their time and put back into the sport they love. Our Buckley House girls couldn’t resist chatting to the players and getting a team photo with them.

Girls and Boys Ivanhoe District Soccer Tournament

On Thursday 12 March Buckley House competed in the Ivanhoe District Soccer Tournament with eight schools competing all day at Seddon & Cartledge Reserves in Ivanhoe amidst beautiful sunshine to claim the district trophy. Soccer is at a very high standard in the IDSSA and this tournament is always hard-fought. This year was no exception with the standard of all teams very high.

This year we sent three teams. Another school pulled out which resulted in two Ivanhoe Boys’ teams competing. This was a great chance to give some boys an opportunity to play that otherwise would not have made the team. Our students played well all day, producing their best effort of the day in their last match with a 2-2 draw against MIPS.

Both the Girls and the A Boys’ teams did a great job during the round-robin pool play and qualified for the semi-finals. In tight semi-finals, both teams went down 1-0 to go agonisingly close to having the chance to play in the Grand Final. The Boys’ team was very good at making sure their opponents didn’t score with the opposition scoring just one goal in the final 10 seconds of the match! It was great to see a lot of parents in support and all of our Buckley House students represented Ivanhoe Grammar School in a fantastic way.

Buckley House – House Swimming sports

The Buckley House Swimming Carnival is always one of the biggest sporting days of the year. On Wednesday 11 March up to 200 children in Years 3-6 ventured to Watermarc in Greensborough to compete for the House Trophy. At the end of the competition, there is a winning house, but it is always about much more than that. The carnival gives every student in Years 3-6 a chance to compete in a competitive but friendly environment. The program was made up of 104 events. Every student was promised a minimum of three events. These events covered the whole range of swimming abilities from beginner ‘novelty’ relay events to highly competitive 50m (2 lap) events. Team spirit was very high and every student who competed scored points for their house resulting in a collaborative feel at the carnival. In the end, after four hours of supporting, screaming and cheering the moment came to crown the winning house. All the House Captains lined up on the pool deck in front of Head of Buckley House Russell Feben and he presented the trophy to the winning house… Sherwood.
