Mooting Masterclass Day at LaTrobe University

On Wednesday 23 April 110 students from schools across Melbourne attended Ivanhoe Grammar School’s Mooting Masterclass Day at LaTrobe University. Mooting simulates a courtroom scenario where students step into the shoes of lawyers and have conversations with the judge to convince them of their side of the case.

Adam, Millie, Lizzie and Katia, experienced mooters and Law students from the Deakin Law School, gave a demonstration moot to the school students and ran differentiated masterclass rooms (Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced) in preparation for our Melbourne Interschool Moots (Seniors held at Deakin Law School in the week of 16 -20 June; Juniors held at Ivanhoe Grammar School on Friday 7 November).

Mr Nigel Preston, President of the Old Ivanarian Law Society, gave an inspiring keynote talk about components of the legal profession, and ran an intensive workshop with the Senior students preparing for the upcoming Bond University High School Mooting Competition.

It is exciting to see the interest in mooting growing, not only at Ivanhoe Grammar School, but across Melbourne!
