Ivanhoe Snowsports Team Takes 3rd Place in State Interschools Racing – 2026 Co-ed Secondary School
Ivanhoe Grammar School’s Snowsports Team takes 3rd place in State Interschools racing – 2026 Co-Ed Secondary School. The Snowsports Team was represented by 38 students from Foundation to Year 12 as they hit the slopes at Mt Buller at the 2026 Victorian Interschools Snowsports Championships.
Over eight days of scheduled races, students competed against more than 200 schools in Victoria. The team consisted of competitors in all disciplines: Grand Slalom skiing, Grand Slalom Snowboarding, Ski Cross, Snowboard Cross, Ski Freestyle, and Moguls.
Challenging conditions are nothing new in the mountains, but it was a week of two halves: the first three days in brilliant sunshine but the next three in strong winds and damp fog. Ivanhoe students persevered and completed their races despite the need to walk back uphill when the wind prevented lifts from operating. Thankfully, conditions eased later in the week with the sun making a reappearance for the final two days for our Year 11 and Year 12 competitors’ events.
Notable podium results included a 2nd and 3rd place finish from Julian C in Div3 Alpine GS and Ski Cross, respectively. This helped lead to a strong team 3rd place in Div 3 Boys Ski Cross for Julian C, Patrick S and Hugh S. Our School team saw multiple top 20 finishes, which is an outstanding achievement at State Level against fields of 100-220 competitors at events. Highly placed results all contributed their scores toward the total, resulting in the School’s strong final standing.
Great support from all our families in the Snowsports Community, as well as staff, encouraged and assisted our competitors during trying conditions, including difficult snow and, at times visibility. Many individuals and teams have now qualified for the National Schools event at Perisher this week (September 2-6), and 11 students have headed north to compete against the best from QLD, NSW and ACT schools. We wish them well as the end of the season looms.
