Ivanhoe Cadets Shine on the National Stage

During the Easter holiday period, Ivanhoe Cadets proudly represented the school at two national-level cadet activities, demonstrating skill, resilience and leadership on a big stage. Year 11 student Rhiannon, from Plenty Campus, was selected to represent Victoria at the National Cadet Drill Competition held in Canberra. Following a highly competitive selection process at the state level, Victoria sent two elite teams to compete against 14 teams from across Australia.

After a rigorous contest, the Victorian teams achieved an outstanding result, finishing first and second overall. Rhiannon was a key member of the winning team and received a Gold Commendation Badge in recognition of her exceptional performance. Her success builds on the work of the Ivanhoe Cadet Unit, including the formation of the school’s first-ever cadet drill team, led by Plenty Campus Regimental Sergeant Major Will D. The Cadet Unit is incredibly proud of Rhiannon for representing both Ivanhoe Grammar School and the Victorian contingent with distinction.

In a second national achievement, Year 11 student Ben M and Year 12 student Will D were selected to attend the 2026 Adventure Training Award program in Tasmania, one of the most demanding experiences offered within the Cadets.

Over five days, the cadets faced challenging conditions, including rain, cold and snow, while completing activities such as canoeing, abseiling, rock climbing and hiking through rugged terrain. Beyond testing physical endurance, the program developed decision-making under pressure and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Both Ben and Will completed the program and were awarded the prestigious Adventure Training Award badge, recognising their commitment, perseverance and leadership.

These national achievements reflect the strength of the Ivanhoe Cadet Unit and the dedication of its students and leaders. Congratulations to Rhiannon, Ben and Will on their outstanding efforts and for representing Ivanhoe with pride.
