Induction of Captains for 2014

Following a selection process involving students and staff, Prefects were announced and inducted at the end of last year. These prefects then attended leadership training designed to equip them with all the skills they will need to serve as effective members of the student leadership team. Following this training, the Heads of Campus each selected two students to serve as Captains.

At The Ridgeway Campus the 2014 Captains are Annie and Rhys.

Annie who is studying for the International Baccalaureate has been a student at Ivanhoe since Year 7 and has distinguished herself academically, winning Academic Achievement Awards as well as receiving Half Honours, and the Kwong Lee Dow Scholarship in Year 10 and winning a Principals Award in Year 11. She also enjoyed being a part of School Musicals, playing one of the leads in the 2013, Wedding Singer production. Annie has shown her leadership qualities in the Cadet Unit, winning a John Benson memorial Leadership Prize in 2012 and the Padre Tom Douglas Memorial Prize in 2013.

International Baccalaureate student Rhys joined the School in Year 4 and threw himself into life at Ivanhoe, getting involved in many of the co-curricular activities on offer. He began to show his leadership abilities in the Middle Years when he was a middle Years Leader and has represented the School in Music, Swimming Tennis and Rugby. Exceling in mathematics and science, he has received credits in the ICAS Science Competition and the ICAS Mathematics Competition. In Year 10 he won the John Benson Memorial Leadership Prize for Cadets.

At the Plenty Campus the 2014 Captains are Matthew and Rebecca.

Matthew started in Year 7 and quickly established himself as a well-rounded student, displaying strengths in a range of academic and co-curricular areas. He received an Academic Achievement Award and Principals Award in Year 7 and went on to win Subject Awards as well as attaining a Rhodes Award in Year 11 and being recognised for Internationalism and Leadership with a Silver Ideals Award. Matthew has also shown his talents in sport, particularly in Cricket, Football and Basketball.

Rebecca also joined the School in Year 7 and has kept a busy academic and co-curricular schedule. She has shown an aptitude for French, English and Art, winning many competitions and Subject Awards in these areas. She joined the Student Representative Council in In Year 10 and in the same year was presented with Half Honours. In Year 11 she was recognised for Internationalism, Adventure and Leadership with a Gold Ideals Award and received a VCE Subject Award in Visual Communications and Design. She was also involved with the Cadet Unit winning the Padre Tom Douglas Memorial Prize in 2013.

There is no doubt that all four Captains are very capable young people who will represent the School well and carry out their responsibilities with pride and commitment. Ivanhoe Grammar School congratulates Annie, Rhys, Matthew and Rebecca on their appointment and looks forward to the year to come.
