Last week on a sunny afternoon, Buckley House held the annual House Cross Country Championships at Chelsworth Park. Students trained hard for either the 2km or 3km of the Cross Country race. It was wonderful to see so many parents in attendance on the day.
The students that came in the Top 6 all received ribbons and the Top 10 qualify for the School Team to compete at various upcoming inter-school championships. They all ran well and displayed great talent. These students will get their time to shine, however, this day is as much about other personal success stories. Like the student in Year 3 whose mum emailed after the race, excited that her daughter had learnt that after doing her first ever long distance event that she loves to run! Also, the two girls in Year 4 who scraped into the Top 10 and made their first ever School Team in any sport! Or the student in Year 5 that, after three years of trying, made it around the course for the first time running all the way and not stopping to walk. And finally, the student in Year 6 who was apprehensive and was not going to turn up, but then changed his mind at the last minute and ended up finishing the course with a big, proud smile on his face!
It must be mentioned that none of these results would be possible if it wasn’t for the help of the classroom teachers who supported our ‘Cardiovascular program’ by doing extra training runs during class time this term. A big thank you to all the parents who helped on the day. Thank you to Grace and Angus, two supportive parents who rode the bike at the front of each race as our ‘Rabbit’ for the leaders to follow. And also, the parents who sat out on the course at different stations to ensure the children were safe and supported all the way around the course.
And last but not least when all the points were added up for each competitor who completed the course, the winner was Lincoln!
