Gallery of Achievement Assembly

On Friday 1 August, 15 members of the School’s Gallery of Achievement gathered for a special Senior School assembly in Buckley Hall held to honour them and their achievements.

The purpose of the Gallery of Achievement is to show our current students that with hard work and determination, great things can be achieved. The Gallery includes representatives from all aspects of daily life; alumni who have excelled in the Arts, Science, Business, Politics, Education, given a lifetime of Service to others and those who have gained exceptional personal achievements.

The Acting Principal, Mr Foley, had great pleasure in welcoming two new members to the Gallery.

Mr John Isaac AM, Class of ‘61 who was recently appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in the General Division in 2014, for significant service to the community of Melbourne particularly through St. Vincent's Hospital and the law. John is also a Past President and Chairman of the RACV.

Mr Derek Welton, Class of ’98, is an international opera singer of great renown. Derek is a graduate of the University of Melbourne, where he studied Linguistics and German, and of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Bass-baritone Derek has performed in many of Europe’s great opera houses and concert halls in repertoire ranging from Bach to Wagner and Richard Strauss. He is currently in Melbourne to perform at Hamer Hall with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

Derek sang a rousing rendition of the Toreador’s Song from Bizet’s Carmen much to the delight of an enthralled audience.

One member was added to the Gallery in absentia. Mr Chris Reseigh, Class of ‘61, who lives in Virginia, USA has had a distinguished career in the Global Civil Engineering and Construction Industry. Working for the International Consulting firm, Parsons Brinckerhoff, he has served as a corporate executive, program manager and principal, construction project manager and engineer culminating in serving 15 years as President and Chief Operating Officer of the Construction Management arm of Parsons Brinckerhoff.

At the conclusion of the assembly some students were able to meet with the Gallery members over a light lunch and speak with them, not only about their achievements, but also convey to them what life is like at Ivanhoe today.
