The Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award Recipient

On Saturday 3 December the celebration of the Gold Award Gala was held at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne, where 73 young men and women across Victoria were presented with their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. Year 12 student, Callum McIlveen was presented with his certificate by the Honourable Linda Dessau AM, Governor of Victoria.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is one of the world’s leading youth development programs. A number of Universities across Australia recognise The Award outcomes with some using it as a link in their recruitment process, such as La Trobe University’s Aspire program.

Callum is an amazing young man who has been able to successfully balance his passion for sports, his commitment to volunteer work and his studies, while gaining invaluable experiences in different cultures and leadership skills. Callum’s highlights which were read out on the night included;

‘Travelling through Indonesia on my Adventurous Journey provided me with a great insight into the real culture and traditions of the Indonesian society. Interacting with local school children and teaching them how to play Australian Rules Football were personal highlights of my journey’.

Congratulations Callum! Your dedication, perseverance and passion has seen you accomplish something extraordinary and we at Ivanhoe Grammar School are so very proud of you. We wish you all the very best in your future endeavours.
