Donation Drive for Charity

Year 7 students at The Ridgeway campus recently embarked on a donation drive for charity, Bear Essentials. This charity does vital work on the streets of Melbourne, handing out backpacks containing care packages and essentials for people living rough on the streets.

Recently, during Chapel, Year 7 students listened to Revered Winkett who challenged them with the concept of “what’s inside your backpack?” This was a thought-provoking exercise which enabled our students to really think about the emotions “in our backpack”. Joy, anger, disappointment, excitement, anxiety and many more. Reverend Winkett went on to discuss with the cohort that we need to be mindful of our own “backpack” and also, importantly, other people’s “backpacks”.

With the concept of “backpacks” continuing the Class Captains and their respective Mentor Groups started collecting some bare essentials that will be donated to the charity Bear Essentials. Masses of shampoo, toothpaste, sanitary products, deodorant and the like have been donated and it has been wonderful to witness the generosity and drive of our students and their families. A big thank you to all the Year 7s and their families for this enormous effort!
