Dancing at Lughnasa

Dancing at Lughnasa is a play written by dramatist Brian Friel and is set in Ireland’s County Donegal in August 1936 in the fictional town of Ballybeg. Loosely based on the lives of Brian Friel’s mother and aunts who lived on the west coast of Donegal, this Memory play is told from the point of view of the adult Michael Evans, the narrator. The play depicts the late summer days in August at his aunts’ cottage when he was seven years old and takes place around the festival of Lughnasadh, the Celtic harvest festival.

The performances will take place at 6.00pm on Wednesday 29 April, Thursday 30 April and Friday 1 May in the Schuster Drama Studio.
