Congratulations Carina

Congratulations to Year 5 student Carina who has secured a role in the upcoming musical Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat. Carina just played the role of the Child Catcher in the Buckley House production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang JR and has been performing from a very young age. We recently got the chance to talk to her about this amazing opportunity.

How long have you been involved in the performing arts?

I have been learning various forms of dancing at May Down’s School of Dance since I was three years old and started singing at Ivanhoe Grammar School from Year 3. I have participated in many dance competitions and performed in my dance school’s yearly dance concerts, in both solo and troupe items.

What has been your favourite role so far?

Other than playing the role of child catcher in the Ivanhoe production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang JR, my selection in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat musical is my first professional role.

Tell us a bit about your latest role and what the process of auditioning was like?

I am cast as “ensemble” in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, meaning I will be performing in various roles in a group with other actors.  The audition was actually surprisingly enjoyable, we had to demonstrate that we can memorise dance steps and lyrics quickly, and show our ability to dance, sing and act.

Who do you look up to?

Other than my mum and dad of course, I look up to Miss Renie (Renie Ann Martini) at my dance school.  She has taught me discipline, confidence, and on-stage performance skills.

Who is your biggest supporter?

Definitely my mum. She’s the one that drives me to all the lessons, auditions and rehearsals. In addition, mum supports, encourages, and believes in me.

What are your future aspirations?

I would like to partake in other professional roles in the future and become a professional pianist.
