Australia’s Great School Library

Recently, The Lillian Foote Library at The Ridgeway campus was thrilled to receive a special certificate recognising it as one of Australia’s Great School Libraries.

The Great School Libraries campaign was run by the FAIR group (Freedom of Access to Information & Resources) and called for nominations from students, parents and school staff who had to identify the great things that their school library does.

The Ridgeway Campus Senior School library was celebrated for having fully trained teacher-librarians guiding its teaching and learning programs, fully resourced wide reading and research programs, a wide range of extra-curricular activities like Makerspace, Library Leaders and Chess Club, flexible, welcoming learning areas, volunteer involvement, constantly changing promotional activities and a dynamic collection of print and online resources selected to suit the school community.

Almost 600 students, teachers, parents, principals, library staff and other members of the community nominated more than 200 school libraries around Australia. All of the supporting materials included drawings, stories, quotes and photographs showing how much these libraries are valued by their communities.

It is a great honour for the Library to be recognised as one of Australia’s Great School Libraries and we thank the members of the school community who took the time to nominate the library for this award. Prior to the framed certificate being hung in the Library doorway, the Library Leaders’ Group were excited to show it off as proof of their amazing contribution to all of the special Library programs.
