AGSV Combined School Athletics Championships

What a year for girls’ sport. It was just over a month ago that the School won its first ever netball Premiership. Yesterday, at the AGSV Combined School athletics meeting, the Girls’ won the School’s first ever Athletics title. This is an outstanding achievement, considering the School had not placed higher than fourth on any occasion prior.

Whilst there were many brilliant individual performances, this was definitely a team effort, and the manner in which the girls completed their 4 x 100m relay events, which were the last events of the day, indicated a team that was well drilled and together as one. There were smiles everywhere as Co-captains Carlie Barnewall and Selina Yang accepted the Premiership Cup and then proceeded to lead the girls (and the boys) in a passionate version of the School war cry.

Congratulations are extended to our Head Coach of Athletics, Mr Chris Branigan and to his coaching assistants, Mr Lawrence Dalton and Ms Michelle van Beek.

And whilst the Girls’ took the glory, it should be noted that the boys were also exceptionally good, finishing a gallant 2nd to the very strong, all boys Trinity Grammar School. Well done boys!
