2025 FUSE Australian School Esports Awards

We are delighted to announce that Pedagogical & Curriculum Leader and esports Coordinator at Ivanhoe Grammar School, Jason Coleman has been shortlisted as a finalist in two categories in the 2025 FUSE Australian School Esports Awards: Outstanding Mentor in Esports and Esports Coach of the Year.

The Esports Teachers Award Program celebrates educators and schools that are leading the way in integrating esports as a meaningful educational and extracurricular activity. This program aims to acknowledge individuals and institutions that demonstrate innovation, inclusivity, and excellence in creating opportunities for students to learn, collaborate, and thrive through esports.

Jason describes this recognition as both exciting and humbling. ‘Being shortlisted as a finalist in two categories is an incredible honour. It’s exciting to be recognised, and also very humbling to be named alongside some of the leading voices in Australian esports. I’m not someone who usually talks about achievements, but this nomination reflects the impact of what we’ve built for our students. There’s been a lot of work behind the scenes, and seeing our students engage, collaborate, and flourish makes it all worthwhile. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved and grateful for the opportunity to keep growing this space.’

Ivanhoe Grammar School has established an inclusive and thriving esports program that offers students opportunities to engage in a safe and supportive environment. From Minecraft game development initiatives designed for girls to a wide range of Nintendo Switch games, the school ensures that every student can participate in ways that feel authentic and empowering.

For Jason Coleman, working in this space is about much more than gaming. ‘Working in this space means creating something truly special for our students. It’s about building programs that reflect who they are, what they love, and how they learn best.’

The esports Program at Ivanhoe Grammar School has seen remarkable growth, becoming a highlight of the week for many students.

Student reflections

One thing I like about Just Dance is that you get to work together and cheer each other on!
I love doing Just Dance because it is a fun chance to hang out with my friends and a really good opportunity to compete with people from other schools.
One thing I LOVE about Just Dance is that we have lots of opportunities and it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me! I also love interacting with other schools, just like interschool sport!!
I like how we get to compete with other schools.
