2023 Battlefields Tour

Students and staff have been having an incredible time on the 2023 Battlefields Tour. The group left Melbourne on Saturday 8 April and will return on Saturday 22 April. The tour began in Paris with plenty of opportunities for sightseeing, including visits to venues such as the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, The Palace of Versailles and the Arc de Triomphe. Since then, students and staff have visited many notable sites such as the Pozieres Memorial for the Australian first division, the Somme Battlefields, Mont Saint Michel, the Menin Gate Service in Ypres, the stunning Medieval city of Bruges and the Normandy beaches, to name a few.

A highlight of the tour was the Menin Gate last post ceremony. The school group was privileged to be part of the Menin Gate last post ceremony, a very historic event. The last post is held every night to commemorate those fallen soldiers that bravely sacrificed their lives for their country. Mr Doman was the person bestowed the honour of reading out the ode. Three students were lucky enough to represent the school with honour and lay a wreath to commemorate the occasion. It was a moving tribute.

The tour has been an outstanding success and no doubt the group will be making the most of their last days. The tour has given students and staff time to reflect and insights into some of the most important chapters in recent human history and complements Humanities and History outcomes currently delivered through the Australian Curriculum.
