Official Opening of The Round
On Tuesday 22 March The Round was officially opened by Her Excellency The Honourable Linda Dessau AM, Governor of Victoria.
On a beautiful autumn day, the Deputy Principal and Head of Plenty Campus, Mrs Deborah Sukarna welcomed the invited guests and students into the central courtyard of this impressive new building and acknowledged the traditional owners of the land.
The Chairman of the Board of Governors, Mr Peter Kempen introduced the Governor who spoke of the importance of encouraging students to embrace science, technology, engineering and mathematics as a way to ensure future careers and to continue to make Victoria an innovative and successful State. The Round which encompasses specially designed Physics, Biology and Chemistry laboratories as well as a Middle Years and Primary Science precinct encourages and gives focus to the teaching of Science.
The Principal, Mr Gerard Foley thanked all those who were involved in the design and construction of this outstanding new facility, including Architects, McBride Charles Ryan and builders, Building Engineering Pty Ltd.
The musical items performed by the Senior students were hauntingly beautiful and the Reverend Stephen May, Vicar St James’ Anglican Church, Ivanhoe blessed and dedicated the new School building. The Governor then toured the new impressive facility and saw Science in action with Year 8 Biology students studying cell structure.
The building has been designed to meet the specific learning needs of Years 10, 11 and 12 students as they prepare for tertiary education and move to more independent learning. Underpinning the learning spaces is a clearly defined pedagogy that is reflected in current educational research. Classrooms are modelled on tertiary settings, allowing for flexible and collaborative learning spaces with small break out areas for private study and social hubs.
Learning spaces are fluid and interconnected with the latest technology seamlessly integrated into each classroom. The building’s circular form includes central courtyards and light wells and makes an impressive addition to the Campus.
Set in magnificient grounds, the Plenty Campus has state-of-the-art facilities including The Round, Creative Arts Centre, Food Technology Centre, Primary and Secondary Libraries, Equestrian Centre, excellent sporting facilities, providing the best possible facilities to enhance students’ learning and experiences.
