The 2019 National Schools Volleyball Cup

In 2019, after 20 years in Melbourne, the National Schools Volleyball Cup relocated to the Gold Coast. Three teams embarked on the interstate trip this year, which is a first for the Ivanhoe volleyball program and a reflection on the growth and success of the program. The week-long tournament has over 400 teams playing out of the new Carrara and Coomera complexes on the Gold Coast that were built for the recent Commonwealth Games.

The junior Year 7 and 8 girls’ team is playing in their first-ever tournament and doing really well. They won their first game in Division 3 on Tuesday and have been close in every other game losing all games in close 2-1 set defeats. Our Year 9 boys’ team is doing an amazing job and at the halfway mark of the week are undefeated with a 6-0 win-loss record in Division 3. They are eying off a Grand Final berth on Saturday.

Our Senior Year 11 and 12 girls’ team have been our flagship team over the last two years, winning the last two AGSV premierships. This year for the first time  we have a team that qualified during the year to play in the Open Honours Division. This places them in the Top 10 high school female teams in Australia which is an amazing effort. They are currently 1 win and 5 losses in this tough division and sitting 8th on the ladder.

Our students are having a great time competing and are also enjoying travelling and staying with their teammates.
