Snowsports Training Camp Mount Buller

During the Term 2 holiday period, 24 students and staff members made the trek to Mount Buller for a five day training camp.

The group stayed at the Ski Club of Victoria, also known as ‘The Whitt’. Each student participated in two, two hour lessons per day covering the Alpine Skiers and Snowboarders at a variety of skill levels. It wasn’t all work and no play, students were allocated time for Free Skiing in groups of four on designated runs in between their lessons if the weather permitted.

The snow conditions this year were hailed as the best for a very long time, with deep fresh snow falls which provided excellent powder skiing. The whole mountain was open allowing a huge variety of terrain to be explored by our skiers and snowboarders.

Weather-wise, foggy ‘white-out’ conditions dominated most days and some drizzle, however the week was a great success with many valuable skills learned and improved fitness over the course of the week.

Evenings at the camp were varied throughout the week and included activities such as a ski safety presentation, movie nights, a trivia night and indoor sports including mountain bike pump track, soccer, basketball and rock climbing.

The students from both Campuses shared training, meals and accommodation with the Snowsports students from Ivanhoe Girls Grammar School. This provided the opportunity to socialise and strengthen friendships with their peers as well as with our neighbouring school.
