Share the Dignity Soccer Match

On Saturday 28 May the inaugural Share the Dignity Soccer Match was played between the Firsts Girls’ Soccer teams from Ivanhoe Grammar School and Welsey College.

Supported by the School, Old Ivanhoe Grammarians and Wesley College, sponsored by Cottons and Share the Dignity, the inaugural Share the Dignity Soccer Match took place in the early and frosty hours of Saturday 28 May, on the North Ground.

Whilst alumni, parents and staff assembled to support the Ivanhoe and Wesley Girls’ Firsts Soccer teams, they did so also to raise awareness for a couple of important issues. Following the success of the of the Share the Dignity April Campaign at Ivanhoe Grammar School which saw members of the School community donate 120 sanitary items to assist homeless women in their time of need, the Soccer Match was another opportunity to raise awareness for women’s empowerment, gender equality, respectful relationships and indeed dignifying and supporting homeless and at-risk women on a local level.

Whilst Wesley won the match, the Ivanhoe students put up a good fight. The students were thrilled to have received Cottons and Share the Dignity show-bags, but perhaps the most heartening and inspiring moment was seeing students from both Schools donate more sanitary items into the bright, pink collection bin – more than 100 items were again donated at the morning tea that followed the match. A big thank you to the Ladies’ Association for their magnificent support and contribution.
