King’s Birthday Honours

It was great to see so many Australians recognised in the newly named King’s Birthday Honours List this year. More than 1000 illustrious Australians were recognised, including awards in the Order of Australia (General and Military Divisions), meritorious awards and recognition for distinguished and conspicuous service.

The following members of the Ivanhoe community have been publicly acknowledged for their contributions to a wide range of activities:

• The Very Reverend Dr Stuart Blackler OAM Stuart was a teacher at Ivanhoe Grammar School from 1958 until 1967. His award was for services to the Anglican Church of Australia.

• John Ellis OAM for services to the Oenology industry. John owns Hanging Rock Winery and is a Ridgeway Club Member.

• John Dermer OAM for services to the Creative Arts particularly as a ceramicist. John is a member of our Gallery of Achievement and has worked in Parliament House Canberra.

The Governor-General announced honours and awards for the 1,191 Australians on Monday 11 June 2023.

“Congratulations to the outstanding Australians recognised in today’s Honours List. Recipients have made substantial contributions and had a significant impact at the local, national or international level. Some are volunteers, others have had a remarkable impact in professional roles – many have done both. They are all inspiring and their service is valued by us all,” the Governor-General said.

For the first time since the Order of Australia began in 1975, more women than men were recognised in the general division. Women were recognised with 465 awards.
