Katrina Hibbert to Coach the Boomers

Katrina Hibbert, Champion Baskteballer and former Commonwealth Gold Medallist has been working at Ivanhoe Grammar School as a P.E teacher, Sports Coordinator and Head basketball coach since 2011.

The School is delighted that she has just been welcomed back to The Deakin Melbourne Boomers as a Development Coach for the 2016/17 WNBL season.

Katrina played 112 games with the Boomers and was a two-time WNBL MVP and All-star Five during her time there and is now looking forward to taking her coaching career to the next level.

Katrina has had a very interesting journey to where she is right now, from the top of the basketball leagues in the US and Europe to the humble classroom, her diverse life experiences are sure to inspire students.

During her time at Ivanhoe, Katrina has coached and mentored young athletes, developing these players into formidable teams.

Katrina has also been instrumental in organising the successful International Basketball trips to the U.S where students have had the opportunity to stay with host families, attend local schools and play matches against local High School teams.

“I see basketball as a vehicle that was able to take me all over the world where I met and made some amazing lifelong friends and experienced many interesting and different cultures which has given me an appreciation for the life we have in Australia,” she said.

Katrina Hibbert is such a well-respected player and has been instrumental in inspiring and developing young athletes at Ivanhoe Grammar School where she will continue her role as Sports Coordinator alongside her coaching duties for the Boomers.
