Ivanhoe’s Volleyball Triumph at the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup

From December 3-9, six Ivanhoe volleyball teams competed at the prestigious Australian Volleyball Schools Cup (AVSC). The enthusiasm and dedication of the teams shone through as they participated in various categories, including Boys and Girls Year 8, Boys and Girls Year 9/10, and our esteemed Boys and Girls’ Firsts teams.

The journey to success began with intense preparations throughout the year, marked by additional Friday training sessions. The commitment and hard work of our athletes have not only elevated the Volleyball Program at Ivanhoe but have also contributed to making volleyball a more popular sport within the school.

This year, the AVSC featured a whopping 500 teams from around 200 schools, solidifying its reputation as the largest school sporting event in the Southern Hemisphere. The Ivanhoe teams faced formidable competition, and the experience was nothing short of extraordinary.

Highlighting the dedication of our coaching staff, the School was thrilled to have eight out of the 56 competitors invited to stay back in Queensland for the National Identification camp, featuring the best young volleyballers from across Australia.

A special shoutout goes to our incredible team of 10 teachers, coaches, and managers who provided unwavering support on and off the court. Mrs Bell, Mr Ingleton, Mr Gill, Mor Cozio, Mr Adderly, Mr Mclnerney, Tanya, Marija, Dave, and Daimon played a crucial role in guiding the teams and ensuring a memorable experience for the athletes.

Apart from intense competition, the teams had the opportunity to explore the Gold Coast, engaging in activities like shopping and dining in Broadbeach, enjoying the beach, and cheering for fellow Ivanhoe Grammar School teams at the stadium. The camaraderie and bond among the teams, regardless of age or gender, were noted by many as one of the program’s strengths.

In terms of results, the School is thrilled to announce that the Year 8 Girls’ Team clinched the gold medal in Division 1, while our Girls’ Firsts Volleyball Team secured the bronze medal in Division 1. The Year 9/10 Boys’ Team also made their mark by winning the bronze medal in Division 3.

As we celebrate these achievements, we eagerly anticipate the continued success and development of the Ivanhoe Volleyball Program. Looking ahead, the introduction of the Ivanhoe Edge Volleyball Program in early 2024 promises exciting opportunities for our athletes to further enhance their skills under the guidance of our International ex-player and Coach, Mr Mclnerney.

Congratulations to all the athletes, coaches, and supporters on a remarkable showing at the AVSC.
