Ivanhoe Student Shines on Global Stage at ISEF

From 9–15 May, more than 1,700 young scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs and inventors gathered at the Phoenix Convention Centre for a dynamic week of events at the 2026 Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Pheonix Arizona.

Year 11 student Michael represented Ivanhoe Grammar School at ISEF, achieving outstanding results and earning international recognition for his innovation and dedication. Competing against some of the world’s most talented young scientists, Michael secured an impressive three awards, making him the most successful representative in the Australian and New Zealand delegation.

His standout achievement was a Grand Award, placing 2nd in the Embedded Systems category, sponsored by Jane Street. This result came after progressing through multiple rounds of rigorous judging, with more than 50 projects in the category alone assessed by industry experts.

In addition, Michael received two highly regarded Special Awards, selected from a field of more than 1,300 international projects:

• Society for Science – Society Alumni Special Award, recognising “extraordinary outcomes with ordinary resources”
• International Council on Systems Engineering – Best Use of Systems Engineering Award (Honourable Mention)

Reflecting on the experience, he shared his gratitude for the opportunity to attend and acknowledged the support that made the journey possible. Beyond the competition, ISEF also offered the chance to connect with like-minded peers from across the globe. Michael said, “I had a great time and made so many new friends with amazing people from all around the world and in the Australian team.”

Congratulations to Michael on this outstanding achievement.
