Ivanhoe Kayakers Making Their Mark on the World Scene

A number of Ivanhoe Grammar School students are making waves on the international Kayak scene. The following students deserve special recognition for their outstanding efforts:

Lachlan Bassett and Sam Grant

From 2-7 August, Year 9 students Samuel and Lachlan will represent Australia in the International Canoe Federation (ICF) Junior and U23 Wildwater Canoeing World Championships in Bryson City, USA.

The event is expected to draw over 200 wildwater canoers and thousands of spectators from around the world to Nantahala Gorge, located in the heart of the North Carolina Smoky Mountains.

These talented teens are competing in the C2 category and you can follow their progress in this event via the following link http://nantahala2015.com/event-details/

Madison Wilson

Year 10 student Madison recently competed in a Euro Cup Canoe Freestyle event in Wildalpen Austria and from 30 August to 5 September she will represent Australia in the ICF Freestyle Canoe World Championships at Ottawa River, Canada. The Ottawa River is one of the most diverse freestyle waves on the planet, the ideal location for freestyle kayaking to showcase the full range of manoeuvres and high flying tricks.

Details of the World Championships can be found here www.worldfreestylekayakchampionships.com

Madison’s achievements in a burgeoning area of the sport is worthy of special mention.

Tristan Carter

Tristan may only be sixteen years of age but he has certainly made a splash on the Kayaking circuit. Tristan represented Australia at the World Junior Slalom Championships in Rio de Janeiro, just falling short of a spot in the finals. Tristan was the only male junior paddler to qualify for both K1 (single kayak) and C1 (single canoe) events, a brilliant effort against the experienced European teams.

Congratulations to all these outstanding athletes, the opportunity to represent Australia is a significant honour. They should be highly commended for the way they represent the School and their country.
