Commissioning of the New Principal

On Tuesday 10 November Mr Gerard Foley was formally commissioned by The Archbishop of Melbourne, The Most Reverend Dr Philip Freier as the new and only fifth Principal of Ivanhoe Grammar School at St Paul’s Cathedral in Melbourne.

Before an assembled audience of Board members, current and past Chaplains of the School, invited guests, staff and student representatives from all Campuses, alumni, parents and friends, the Archbishop of Melbourne, The Most Reverend Dr Philip Freier formally commissioned and welcomed the Principal to the School.

After a welcome from the Dean of Melbourne, The Very Reverend Dr Andreas Loewe and response and thanks from the Chairman of the Board of Governors, Mr Peter Kempen, as well as prayers from the Chaplains of the School, the combined Orchestras and Choirs performed a moving rendition of Song for Ivanhoe.

Following a Bible reading from a Plenty Campus Prefect, staff members, students, parents, and alumni formally welcomed Mr Gerard Foley to the position on behalf of the School community and he thanked them for their ongoing support. The formal commissioning by The Archbishop was greeted by the whole congregation who warmly and enthusiastically welcomed the new Principal of Ivanhoe Grammar School. Prayers of thanks were led by various members of the School community and the service finished with a moving performance of You’ll Never Walk Alone performed by the School’s combined Choirs and accompanied by the Jazz Band.

The formal procession of the gathered clergy, The Archbishop, Mr Foley, students, senior staff and Chairman of the Board of Governors left the Cathedral to the School Hymn and Recessional Hymns.
