Ceramics Workshop Series

Throughout Term 3, the Arts Faculty delivered a four-week after-school Ceramics Workshop Series for Year 10 and 11 Art and IB Visual Arts students.

Led by Rachel Feery, the program introduced participants to slab-building processes and experimental glazing techniques, extending their learning beyond the regular curriculum.

Held in ArtsEdge across four Wednesday afternoons, the workshops provided students with the opportunity to develop new technical skills through hands-on making and creative experimentation. Staff members also joined the sessions, contributing to a collaborative and engaging studio environment.

The quality of the finished ceramic works reflected the enthusiasm and commitment of participants throughout the program. The workshop series broadened students’ experience of contemporary ceramic practice and provided valuable opportunities to further develop their creative and technical capabilities.

The Arts Faculty thanks Rachel Feery for sharing her expertise and leading a program that enriched the co-curricular Arts opportunities available to students at Ivanhoe Grammar School.

I really enjoyed getting involved in the Ceramics workshop as it provided a relaxed environment to further develop my artistic skills. The workshop also encouraged collaboration between different year levels, which made the experience particularly engaging and memorable. Orlando

The after-school ceramics workshop was a really fun experience for me as well as everyone else who took part in it. The program included using clay to make test tiles, a vase and a clay canvas which we painted a landscape on using glaze. For me, the most enjoyable of these activities would probably be making the vase because of the many different designs that we were able to choose from. I had such a great time learning new skills and meeting new people and would definitely recommend future programs like this for anyone who is considering taking part. Ariadne

I absolutely loved the ceramics workshop not just because of the experience and opportunity to learn new skills but also because of the atmosphere and people/teachers who made the experience so much more than that. I would definitely recommend this course to future art students, as it was something I enjoyed so much that I wish the course was even longer. – Lily
