2026 Promising Practice
Our Cambodia Service Trip has been awarded a 2026 Promising Practice from Character.org. This achievement acknowledges the meaningful impact of the program, recognising its contribution to character development and its alignment with the 11 Principles of Character identified by Character.org.
This recognition reflects the School’s ongoing commitment to developing young people of character, as we continue to embed character education into all aspects of school life. It marks Ivanhoe Grammar School’s third Promising Practice recognition from Character.org, following the Cadet Program in 2023, the IDEALS Program in 2024 and Global Education in 2025, highlighting the depth and consistency of our commitment. In March, Ivanhoe Grammar School was officially recognised as an Australia School of Character, the highest level of recognition within the Character.org framework.
A signature program at Ivanhoe Grammar School since 2004, the Cambodia Service Trip is a long-standing tradition involving over 100 Year 11 students each year. Students participate in a two-week program of service activities, including teaching English, running Football programs, supporting local schools, and contributing to community development projects. These experiences are grounded in the strong partnerships the School has built with local organisations and communities to create a meaningful program. Through this engagement, students develop a broader global perspective and a stronger sense of purpose in contributing to communities beyond their own.
The Cambodia Service Trip plays an integral role in the character development of our students. The program embodies many of the 11 Principles of character, encouraging students to step beyond their comfort zones, building resilience, compassion, and integrity, while deepening their understanding of leadership and social responsibility. The Cambodia Service Trip and this award would not be possible without the dedication and commitment of our staff, whose efforts in organising the program create such an impactful experience for our students.
This recognition highlights the meaningful impact of the trip and Ivanhoe Grammar School’s continued leadership in character education in shaping young people of character who are inspired to make a positive difference.
