2015 AGSV Combined Athletics Championships

On Wednesday 9 September the AGSV Combined Athletics meeting took place at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park.

As with previous years it was a tremendously successful day as it gave more than 100 students the opportunity to represent the School in what is a demanding yet very rewarding physical pursuit.

Whilst the team was not ultimately as successful as last year, our competitors still tried their very best. In the end, the Girls finished second overall, only six points behind the winning team, The Peninsula School. To put the result in perspective, six is the number of points awarded to the event winner and the day is comprised of 72 events. So, a very close result!

A special congratulations goes to Year 10 student at The Ridgeway Campus Oliviah Carah, who broke the record in the 100metre hurdles event and also to Year 10 student at Plenty Campus Tahnysha Salanoa, who broke the record in the shot put – her first time competing in the event!

Compared to last year the boys finished sixth overall, however despite the overall result there were still some terrific individual results; whether that be placing or personal best.

Well done to Head Coach of Athletics, Mr Chris Branigan, Year 12 Athletics Captains Kane Virtue and Ruby Marslen as well as all our competitors. Better luck next year!
