2014 Victorian All-Schools Whitewater Championships

On Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 September, Ivanhoe Grammar School students competed in the 2014 Victorian All Schools Whitewater Championships in Warrandyte.

Students competed in the downriver race and slalom. The aim of whitewater slalom is to navigate a kayak through a course of gates on river rapids in the fastest time possible.

Congratulations to the sixty strong Ivanhoe team for their well-deserved efforts over the weekend, winning the Overall Champion Whitewater School trophy against fifteen other schools. Co-Captains Matt Haddon and Nathan Orso and Vice-Captain Chris Fegan, led the team to victory and also welcomed twenty new students from Year 7.

The School also won the Overall Boys’ Team Trophy but were unable to claim the Girls’ Trophy from a much larger Ivanhoe Girls’ Grammar School team.

Individual Awards:

Most Outstanding Overall Senior Male Competitor: Tristan Carter

Most Outstanding Overall Junior Male Competitor: Sam Grant

The team will now start preparing for the 2014 Australian Championships to be held at Eildon in January 2015.

The team would like to thank those involved for their continued support of the team and long hours spent on the water over the past year.
