Facilities to enhance learning
We work towards providing the best possible facilities to enhance our students' learning and experiences. This is some of what is on offer:
Middle Years Centre
Opened in 2013, the Middle Years Centre is a state of the art learning hub for students in Years 7 and 8. With light filled learning spaces, carpeted meeting forums, multiple flexible spaces suitable for private study and collaborative project work, as well as information technology precincts, the Middle Years Centre is a magnificent addition to Ivanhoe Grammar School. This building was officially opened by the Governor of Victoria, The Honourable Alex Chernov, AC, QC.

Theatre studies are boosted with drama classrooms, a dance studio, a performance theatrette, a green room and change rooms. Music has a state-of-the-art music rehearsal room for orchestra, band and choir, six music studios, two large percussion studios and a professional audio mastering studio as well as a recording studio. Seven art studios, a purpose-built Mac Lab, silk screening printing facilities, 2D and 3D studios are just some of the features in this heritage building. The annual Art Exhibition is hosted here in which our students' work is showcased for parents and the school community to admire.

The T R Lee Science Centre
The T R Lee Science Centre was redeveloped in 2007, ensuring that our science students continue to have access to state-of-the-art facilities. The centre includes two purpose-built Chemistry laboratories, two purpose-built Physics laboratories, five general Science laboratories and facilities for astronomy and weather studies. The redeveloped centre was officially opened by the Governor of Victoria, Professor David de Kretser AC.
The Buckley Hall Performing Arts Centre
The Buckley Hall Performing Arts Centre is named after the School's founder and provides a venue for school drama and music performances, assemblies, school gatherings, community forums and Alumni reunions. The stage has professional light and sound facilities to highlight our students' talents. The Hall also hosts our Gallery of Achievement, which recognises the significant achievements of our Alumni.
The Lillian Foote Library
The Lillian Foote Library is much more than just a physical space for students to find books, do research and complete homework. It is used by students for activities such as playing chess and cards, by readers wanting a quiet place and by senior students wanting to focus on revision. The library also hosts author visits, with students enjoying talks and interaction with leading authors. In addition, the library houses the multimedia room where students can hire cameras, edit videos, make movies and prepare presentations.
The Food Technology Centre
The Food Technology Centre offers commercial grade ovens, cooktops, grills and preparation areas so students can learn a wide range of nutritional concepts and food preparation skills in a professional environment. Students also work in a role called the Kitchen Manager where they discover what goes into the running of a commercial environment. Food Technology is compulsory in Year 7 and an elective in Year 8.
The Ridgeway Campus's sports facilities include two playing ovals, one of which is fully synthetic and includes a running track, soccer, hockey and softball fields as well as basketball and netball courts, the John Benson Physical Education Centre and a swimming pool. Students have the choice of playing a wide range of sports on campus, such as soccer, hockey, netball, softball, basketball, cricket, football and tennis. Students also have access to Chelsworth Park with its tennis, cricket and football facilities.
The International Centre
Home to the ELICOS program, the International Centre has a recreation area with kitchen facilities for students, staff offices and four teaching spaces that are used by ELICOS and mainstream classes. ELICOS students start here and get to know their fellow classmates and become a part of the Ivanhoe family as they prepare to enter mainstream classes.
The Ridge Café
The Ridge Café is more than a standard school cafeteria. It offers cafe quality food with students having a daily choice of a range of healthy and freshly prepared hot and cold meals. There is seating in The Ridge, on the outdoor balcony and in the adjacent courtyard. The courtyard includes barbecue facilities and provides an ideal venue for student fund-raising events such as sausage sizzles and Pancake Day.
Ivanhoe Grammar School is a laptop school with every student in Years 7 to 12 having their own laptop. We have an in-house Information Technology support team who assist with computer issues and ensure the school is kept up to date with items such as smart boards and video conferencing equipment.
The Ridgeway Campus enjoys beautiful grounds. Buildings are nestled among lovely gardens, sports ovals and 100-year-old trees. As well as adding to the welcoming feel of the Campus, the grounds offer students a wide range of locations to play sports or sit and chat during their breaks.
As part of the current lease arrangement with Banyule City Council, Ivanhoe Grammar School is committed to managing and maintaining this open space. The School is also a significant contributor to the award-winning water harvesting project that was recently completed at Chelsworth Park, an innovative water conservation and water quality improvement system.
Chelsworth Park is widely used by the Ivanhoe community and the current tenants include:
