Primary Sports Update

Auskick at the AFL Finals

On Friday 8 September at the Richmond vs Geelong AFL Final, some of our Year 2 – Year 4 Auskick participants got a chance to play a ‘Grid’ Game on the MCG at half time. It was a huge thrill for the boys and girls to go out onto the famous ground in front of 95,000 people. Thank you to all the children and parents involved and also a big thank you to Mr Braddy for being the team coordinator on the night.

Athletics at Ivanhoe District Championships

On Friday 8 September, 51 Buckley House athletes represented Ivanhoe Grammar School at the Ivanhoe District Athletics Championships. The students had trained all term and competed at House Sports last month to qualify for the team. All students did Ivanhoe Grammar School proud with their efforts and sportsmanship, many of the students should feel very satisfied after achieving Personal Best (PB) results on the day. It was remarkable that 31 of the 51 students placed in the Top 3 of their event and qualified for next term’s Banyule Division Championships. We wish them the best of luck in October when they once again strive to place in the Top 3 to qualify for the Northern Metropolitan Regional Championships the week after.

Hooptime Basketball Tournament

On Tuesday, 5 teams of Year 3 and 4 students attended a Victorian Basketball ‘Hooptime’ Divisional Tournament.

These tournaments happen all around Melbourne during Terms 2 and 3, aiming to promote fun and exciting competition for primary school children. Most of the students on this trip were representing the School and going away on a sporting trip for the very first time. All 32 students were very excited and performed brilliantly on the day. Their teamwork and sportsmanship were amazing and all teachers and coaches were proud of the students’ efforts. The day was about participation, not necessarily winning, however, two of our teams were lucky enough to win the All Star Boy and the All Star Girl sections! These teams get the chance to go on to a Regional tournament next term.

Congratulations and well done to all students involved, and a huge thank you to all the parents and teachers who helped coach, manage, score and support on the day.
