Girls Win Premierships in the Pool and on the Court

Swimming

Over the last decade, both Mentone and Ivanhoe have dominated the AGSV Swimming Championships with Mentone winning the last five. However, we levelled the ledger on Friday night (now 5 wins each) with a nail-biting 3 ½ point win.

The success was a fitting tribute to Graham White who has led girls swimming at Ivanhoe since its inception in 1995. When Captain of the Swimming Team Jenna Pride held the Premiership Cup aloft, there was deafening applause from the 100+ students who supported all the swimmers (both boys and girls) throughout the night. And congratulations also to Dean Voss as the Teacher in Charge of Swimming.

Although our boys tried hard, we had to be content with 2nd place behind a very strong Mentone outfit.

Volleyball

For two years straight, the Girls’ Volleyball Team has not lost a match! And on Saturday morning they showed their excellence with a tough three sets to one victory over Yarra Valley to win the AGSV Premiership. Led superbly by Elly McInerney and Emily Gallagher, the girls played with skill and poise to repel a very determined Yarra team. For Coach Tanya McInerney the result was a terrific reward for a lot of hard work behind the scenes.

Softball

Both our Softball and Touch Teams finished the season on a high with two convincing victories. The softball girls were especially impressive defeating 2nd placed Caulfield 16-3, and ending the season 3rd overall. Our TouchTeam also enjoyed their 2nd successive win.
