Anzac Day

As Anzac Day approaches this weekend, the School will be commemorating this important day in a number of ways. Online Memorial Services will be conducted on the eve of Anzac Day, Friday 24 April and on Saturday 25 April the School’s Cadet Unit and community will take part in the national Anzac campaign, Driveway Vigil.

Due to the unique circumstances currently in place, the Memorial Service will be online via a link on the School Update section of Ivanhoe Connect. We encourage our students to watch this important Service at the same time as a community, honouring what Anzac Day represents and out of respect to the 72 old boys who died while members of the Armed Services since 1939.

The Service will commence for The Ridgeway Campus and Plenty Campus at 12.05pm, Friday 24 April and will run for approximately 20 minutes. University Campus students will view theirs at 2.30pm. Chaplain Pieter Keuneman from Buckley House will also conduct a Service for Buckley House students at 1.30pm on Friday 24 April.

Our school cadets, in the true spirit of service, will contribute to the national campaign to commemorate Anzac Day in 2020, by participating in the Driveway Vigil. At dawn, on Anzac morning, 25 April 2020, Ivanhoe cadets and staff will stand with many others around the country to pay tribute to the fallen, a testimony to their character and respect for the sacrifice others made to protect their freedom.

“Ivanhoe Grammar School has a history steeped in service to the community, in times of war and peace. Many of its former pupils made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our way of life,” said Officer Commanding Ivanhoe Grammar School Army Cadet Unit, Mr Doman.

We encourage everyone in our School community to be a part of the Memorial Services and the Driveway Vigil in order to commemorate the immense sacrifices made by members of the school, and Australian society, throughout the short history of our nation.
