Students to address major conference

A group of our Year 5 and 6 students will present a keynote address at this year’s TeachTechPlay (TTP) conference. The eight girls and four boys will discuss entrepreneurship in technology.

Students rarely present at adult conferences, but our Digital Leaders are keen to represent their generation and highlight the involvement of girls in technology.

Voluntarily run by teachers for teachers for teachers, TeachTechPlay is an independent online professional community supporting classroom innovation.

Ivanhoe Grammar School hosted the first TeachTechPlay conference in 2016, with almost 200 teachers. Last year it attracted 343 participants.

This year TTP will hear from leading technology educators about topics such as coding with drones, apps in the classroom, coding unpacked, student blogging, mindfulness, smartphone filmmaking, creating computer games and cyber safety.

International keynote speakers include innovative ShakeUpLearning.com educator Kasey Bell (@ShakeUpLearning), English-born education consultant Tom Barrett (@TomBarrett), an internationally renowned education technology coach Emily MacLean (@MsEmilyMacLean).

Three Melbourne teachers voluntarily run TeachTechPlay. Steve Brophy, who was Digital Learning and Teaching Victoria’s 2017 Outstanding Leader of the Year, is Director of ICT & eLearning for Ivanhoe Grammar School. Eleni Kyritsis teaches at Strathcona Baptist Girls Grammar School and was 2017 ACCE Australian Educator of the Year. Corey Aylen is Haileybury’s Director of Learning Technologies and passionate about embedding technology seamlessly into classrooms.

TTP will be held on Thursday-Friday April 12-13 at The Ridgeway, Ivanhoe. It costs just $445 for two days, with an optional $249 (+ GST) Masterclass on Wednesday, April 11.
