Chris is an experienced and highly effective classroom teacher who has fulfilled many roles including early childhood teacher, support teacher and literacy consultant K-10. For 5 years she lectured in literacy at the University of Tasmania whilst maintaining her teaching role in a primary school. Chris is currently senior teacher at Lansdowne Crescent Primary in West Hobart where, along with whole school leadership responsibilities, she teaches Kindergarten.
Chris is regularly invited to provide whole school professional learning in the area of literacy for schools throughout Tasmania and interstate. She values working with teams to support whole school change. Chris has been on the national council of the Australian Literacy Educators’ Association for 14 years and is currently the National Vice President.
Chris has co-authored (with Deirdre Arendt, a primary school principal) a book titled, 'Guiding Thinking for Effective Spelling' published by the Curriculum Corporation in 2010. She has also published a book titled 'Discovering Letters and Sounds, Early Childhood Australia'.
