The Inquiring Classroom

Kath Murdoch

For Prep to Year 6 Teachers

Although inquiry based learning is most commonly associated with ‘units of work’ – students and teachers can be engaged in inquiry throughout their day. Inquiring classrooms are places where learners are regularly encouraged to ask questions, investigate possible solutions, make choices, work collaboratively as well as independently and, most importantly, where learners are encouraged to think more deeply for themselves.

In this workshop teachers will explore what it means to truly ‘use’ inquiry based approaches – both as a method for unit design and also as a way of working to enhance learning across the curriculum. We will focus on a wide range of practical strategies and how these strategies link to various domains in VELS.
