For Prep to Year 6 Teachers
The program is appropriate for all Prep -6 teachers who are looking for practical ideas when dealing with students who do not engage in mathematics lessons. The aim is to have our reluctant students become positive participants in our maths classrooms.
The day will provide teachers with practical ideas to take back to school and are easy to organise and implement.
The day will cover:
- Helping students develop interpersonal and personal skills - a necessary ingredient for classroom participation
- Managing mixed abilities effectively so no one feels a failure
- Learning activities need to precede practice/reinforcement activities yet this is often overlooked when selecting lessons to teach
- Developing the skill of appropriate lesson selection.
- Making maths lessons enjoyable for the students and the teacher
Please bring with you an A4 exercise book [paper will do if not available], a ruler, calculator and lead pencil. Colour pencils/crayons or textas would also be useful.
